Teaching Research Literacy in CPE, ACPE Academy Webinar

The ACPE partnered with the Transforming Chaplaincy project to provide a free webinar, Teaching Research Literacy in CPE, on October 23, 2015. The webinar, co-led by Lex Tartaglia (Virginia Commonwealth University) and George Fitchett (Rush University Medical Center), reviewed the CPE Curriculum Development Grant application requirements and presented models for teaching research literacy in CPE residency programs. ACPE Academy has posted the webinar on their site. We have made the PowerPoint slides (created by Lex & George) from today’s webinar available here: Templeton ACPE Webinar 102315. See especially the research literacy programs developed and used by VCU and Rush. (Note that the timeline in the slides has changed. You can find the revised timeline in the CPE Curriculum Grant Application.)

APC Research Webinar Journal Club Presentations

Beginning in the Fall of 2011, George Fitchett and Pat Murphy have led an annual four- or five-part series of research Webinar Journal Clubs (WJC) sponsored by the APC. Each series has a theme:

  • Finding meaning in illness, injury, and loss: The role of religion and spirituality (2011-12)
  • Spiritual care and patient satisfaction: What does the research tell us? (2012-13)
  • Spiritual screening and assessment: Moving toward evidence based methods (2013-14)
  • Advancing chaplaincy with chaplain case studies (2014-15)
  • What chaplains do; what patients and families need: Learning from research (2015-16)
  • New Paradigms, New Interventions and Essential New Information for Advancing Chaplain Practice (2016-17)

Recordings of all the past sessions are available from the APC. You can also sign up for the current series at the APC website. Reading the articles used in past WJC sessions and listening to the webinars could be a component in a research literacy curriculum.
